One of my favorite things about dressing this set was the tchotchkes that Kitty (the props designer) and I found in stock! The color palette and era-appropriate knick-knacks were a joy to piece together.

Still overjoyed we found that couch in storage, the color was perfect!

The Curtain Theater at UMass has, as the name suggests, a curtain running around the edges of the floor level (a balcony gives the space layers). Considering we couldn't build a wall to hang the picture frame from, a big question was "how are we going to mount this?" Luckily, the protrusion of the balcony ended up being a perfect fit!

Can't find natural elements in stock? Luckily, there were plenty of farm supply stores in the Pioneer Valley!

If we'd had access to the shop, I would have liked to add partial walls to the final design for the painting, a window, and part of the porch. Working with the black box theater, a lot of the boundaries were left up to the imagination, which ended up having its own benefits.

All of the sketches were done by hand, and dimensions were solidified after gathering scenic elements out of storage. Our plans for seating changed at the last minute, so the marked pathways at the bottom did not end up being used.
